The Image Within

The Image Within

There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight. – Num 13:33

The year 2018 has been declared as the year of Giant Strides and we have been challenged to begin this year’s journey by making Bold Moves. One of the factors that however determines the rate of movement is the degree of visibility; that is the clarity and range of vision (what is seen or imaged within). Therefore, to make significant progress in 2018, we have to be mindful of the image we nurse within because we will always gravitate towards our dominant thoughts and not necessarily our best intentions (Prov 4:23). The following discusses the essential elements that are vital in birthing and nurturing the right image (IT) with respect to how we see ourselves and where we see ourselves going.

  1. Frame IT with the Word of God

“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the
things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” – Heb 11:3

The Word of God is the substance that gives tangibility to the unseen (Heb 11:3). It is therefore necessary to undergird your inner image (vision) with God’s word for it to translate from wishful thinking to feasible reality. Negative perceptions and false ideologies will also have to be destroyed and replaced with the truth of God’s word for this to be sustained (2 Cor 10:5). Here are a few practical ways of framing the inner image with the scriptures:

  • express what you see (vision) and the associated scriptures that guarantee its performance in a written format (Hab 2:2)
  • feed your expectations by keeping the written vision in clear view (Deut 6:7-9)
  • infuse your vision with life by confessing the promised word (Prov 18:21)
  1. Nurture IT in Prayers

“….Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received,
not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know
the things that have been freely given to us by God” – 1 Cor 2:11b-12

We know in part, and understand in part; constant communication with God in prayers will sharpen the image within and tune your spirit to His realities (1 Cor 13:9, Job 32:8). Praying in the spirit is especially more effective because it transcends human sentiments and helps to zero in on what is pertinent per time (1 Cor 14:2, Rom 8:26).

  1. Focus on One Thing; Forget the Past and Reach Forward

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead” – Phil 3:13

Progressive forward movement can ONLY be achieved by releasing the past (Phil 3:13,
Heb 11:15). Dwelling on past failures and successes will only corrupt the new image within and make you oblivious to God’s workings around and in you (Isa 43:18-19). Past experiences should only be used as a reference point for occasional learning moments. Don’t camp in the past, rather choose to leverage on the lessons leant and move on (1 Cor 10:11).

  1. Guard your Associations

Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character” – 1 Cor 15:33 (AMPC)

A deliberate scrutiny of what you allow through your “ear- and eye- gates” is imperative in maintaining your God-birthed inner image. Your associations (either physical or via the media platform) constitute your “mind-feed-system” and should be filtered and upgraded regularly (Prov 13:20, Prov 24:6).

The Israelites failed to enter the Promised Land in the appointed time because they limited God in their minds (Psa 78:41). It’s time we take the limits off, because if we see well, we will run well, and ultimately finish well. This is our month of Bold Moves, this is our year of Giant Strides…..the ball is in our courts, let’s get going!!!
