Yes, you heard me. You are in the midst of a war, whether you know it or not, and I am letting you know, because what you don’t know can kill you.
What I want to share with you here is very important. It’s called, Spiritual Warfare, the raging battle between the devil and every living being. The question is, where did it begin from? Why? Is there a war-free-zone? What must you do to protect yourself? These and more are the issues we will be dealing with in this article.
Something that must sink into every mind is that spiritual warfare is not a war between God and the devil. It is a battle between the devil and us. If you lose in this battle, you’re a captive and a wreck. If you win, then you’re a victor and a success.
The battle started at creation, when the devil saw the man, that is, man that God had created under his watch, given so much power and authority and he became jealous. Since then on, man became his target out of envy. So, if you think you’re outside his preview, you are in a self-destructive bubble that could soon ruin you. What’s my advice? Wake up!
It’s very sad irony that quite a few folks, or better still, the majority of people think that all there is to see about life are what we can see, feel, touch, smell or taste. That’s carnality. Rom 8:6 warns us that to be carnally minded is death. Of course, not all carnality is sin. But all sin is carnal, when you think that all there is about life is physical. There are more things about life than you can see.
There is a true story in 2Kg 6:13. The Syrian army had surrounded the home of Elisha. When his servant went out the following morning and saw the invading army, he screamed, we are in trouble. But his master looked, saw and calmed him down. Don’t worry, he seemed to say, “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Really? I can only see you and me, and you’re saying this? But Elisha prayed that God should open the man’s eyes and there they were, horses and chariots of fire surrounding them. There are more things impacting your life and world than you can see. Spiritual ignorance is self-destruction; because it is the spiritual first, then physical.
Do you notice that most of the healings Jesus did, He commanded one spirit or the other to leave before there can be liberty? On setting free the woman in Lk 13 Jesus commanded the spirit of infirmity that had bound her to leave and she became free (Lk 13:10-17).
In the case of the epileptic boy in Mk 9, Jesus commanded the deaf and dumb spirit to leave and the boy became well. I can go on and on.
The question is, are there demons behind every sickness? Certainly not!
This leads me to what got me several years ago into what is popularly referred to as deliverance ministry. I had just a particularly big church, and though we learned little, we all trooped in from all over the City I lived in to be entertained. Soon, I became the personal protocol for the then pastor, and would drive here and there as the power show encounter ensued Sunday after Sunday, with shouts of “Get Out”, etc. It was a scene and a drama.
But reality soon hit home when I joined a group of guys in the demon-expelling gymnastics, when we saw every issue people had as sourcing from a demon but soon we began the shouting watch; “Get Out!”….The truth is, unless you really grow, it is very easy to see demons under every grass and in every wind that blows. How many families this over-stretched truth has ruined, suspecting and deducting demons in literally everything!
If it’s okay to laugh, let me share a true story with you. A very highly respected man of God saw some young folks doing some house chores in his home. At lunch, he invited these young men to the dining table and asked one of them to pray before they started eating. The young man began: In Jesus name, I bind the spirt of this and that from this food and on and on he went. When he finished, the man of God said you’ve been binding the food my wife cooked? You’re out of your mind. Were you not taught bless and eat (1Tim 4:4). He drove them off his dining table, sadly!
The huge lesson that must be grasped is that God has given us, the believers, the authority and power over the devil and all his cohorts (Lk 10:19; Mt 28:18-19). We are the ones in position to trample the works of the devil in our finances, health, etc. God will not do it for you. He has instructed you to resist the devil and the devil will flee (Jam 4:7). If you don’t do it, it will not be done!!
One other huge lesson is that the devil is NOT A HUGE MONSTER. Nope! As a matter of fact, he’s nothing but a rat with a large lying mouth, to deceive you into thinking he has more power than he truly does. Hear me, he is scared to death of and about you. Please don’t fear him. He’s a toothless bulldog!
Also, the devil can do absolutely nothing without the help of a physical human, be it a pig or something else that allows itself to be used by the devil. Remember case of the demon-possessed man in Lk 8, the demons in him begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs and on entering them, the pig ran off into the lake and drowned. The man became alright, underscoring a significant issue: No amount of psych medication will heal a mad man, unless the demons in them are expelled. Also, even pigs are wise enough to reject demons.
Let me conclude by challenging you to take charge of your life. Again, God will not do for you those things He has authorized and empowered you to do for yourself. You must fence out the devil from your finances, your family, your health, etc. Stop asking God to come and heal you. Now you enforce your authority and kick the lying devil out.
Why didn’t God just terminate all the devil’s powers, so you can have all the peace you need? God is a covenant keeping God. Psa 89:34 says about God, “My covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.” God keeps His word. The devil’s time is set and he knows it, hence he is rushing to do all the havoc he can (Rev 12:12). If God just terminates him in contradiction of His own word, even you wouldn’t be able to trust God. Good thing is, He hasn’t left you powerless. You have what it takes to win.
How do you win?
- Know you’re in a battle. Don’t be an ostrich, burying your head in the sand in self-delusion.
- Know your weapon, especially the sword of the Spirit, with which you can quench ALL the devil’s fiery darts.
- Resist the devil and don’t ask God to resist him for you.
- Know that he is small with a big mouth and not picture him as a big monster.
- Don’t get into physical fights in a spiritual war. You’re not fighting people. Instead, love people.
- Don’t see demons in everything. Some things are and some things are not.
- Stay in faith. Don’t believe lies. Do the Word. Don’t be tossed about. Get in the word for yourself. It’s you manual for life and living.
- Know from now on never to fight to win but to fight from victory, which is to maintain your victory in Christ.
May God bless you mightily!
